Martial Arts, like many other things, is highly dependent upon discipline. Without discipline, we cannot accomplish goals or reach our dreams. In this case of becoming "excellent" we apply the lessons learned inside the do-jan to our everyday lives. Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit, Self-Control, Respect, Self-discipline, Motivation, Courage, Leadership, Compassion, Focus, Confidence, Teamwork, Modesty, Self-Awareness, Perfection, Imperfection, and Humility are just a few of the things we learn inside these walls. What makes us "excellent" is not the fact that we are able to memorize a list, but the simple fact that we apply these characteristics to our own lives every single day. This is how we train our Mind and Spirit. We expect more from ourselves. We are taught powerful and dangerous tools. It is in our hearts and minds in how we choose to use these tools, hopefully for benefitting others. Martial Arts is not simply a few hours of practice every week. Martial Arts is a way of life. This is what it means to be "excellent".
